Wing and a Prayer

Well, I think that it's time I wrote me a country song
If that's what they call 'em nowadays
Turned my back on that stuff thirty years ago
Did'nt seem to fit in much with that ol' Purple Haze
Yeah, but lately I' been likin' thes so-called cowboy chords
Seems like folk, rock and blugrass all rolled into one
It's like fiddlin' is fiddlin' and pickin' is pickin', Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, REM, it'a all one.
But like everything else that I do, it lacks direction
I just hang out here playin', it comes right outa' the air
If there's some kind of plan here it escapes my detection
I'm just flyin' along on a wing and a prayer
Yeah, an' I think that it's time I looked into makin' a livin', you know, like grow up and get a job
Sometimes livin' lif backwards ain't so forgivin'
Yeah, but I guess it's worth drivin' that ol' truck instead of a Saab
And I think that it's time I learned to love somebody
I mean for maybe more than just a couple of weeks
lHow to let 'em have their own ideas and stuff separate from mine
How to let 'em discover theri own truth that they seek
To live gratefully, gracefully, even learn to forgive, to learn to live simply that otheres may simply live
But like everything else that I do, it lacks direction
I just hang out here playin', it comes right outa' the air
If there's some kind of plan here it escapes my detection
I'm just flyin' along on a wing and a prayer
