Farmer’s Market

She was standin’ in the flower line
Farmer’s market, county fair
She was talkin’ with a friend of mine
‘Bout a recent love affair

Up against a tree with my guitar
One lone dollar in my case
Mornin’ sun broke through the cottonwoods
Dancin’ shadows on her face

On a sunny summer Saturday
Lilacs in her coffee-colored hair
Catch a dollar when it blows my way
Farmer’s market, county fair

He was weavin’ through the melon stands
Nearly tumbled one or twice
Summer sidewalk on his face and hands
Givin’ everyone advice

“Play some rock n roll”
He said to me
Through a toothless bearded grin
Helped me write a brand new melody
Before he stumbled off again

On a sunny summer Saturday
Drunks an’ dragonflies in the square
Catch a dollar when it blows my way
Farmer’s market, county fair

Mamas park their kids in front of me
Like I’m a clown or a TV
Pampered poodles eye me warily
Some seem to think that I’m a tree

I looked up to find her standin’ there
Swayin’ to a brand new song
Saw the words that I’d been searchin’ for
In her eyes there all along

On a sunny summer Saturday
Rhymes and romance in the air
Catch a dollar when it blows my way
Farmer’s market, county fair
